A violin made using willow from Inversek Lodge Garden is nearing completion in the workshop of instrument maker Steve Burnett. The log's journey began some six month's ago when it was removed as part of a pruning programme in the gardens. It was then left to season before being split and fashioned into the shape of a violin (pictured below). The Inveresk violin, Steve believes, will be pleasing to both the eye and ear, pointing to the willow's "beautiful branch knot, freckles and pinkish flesh tones and growth rings running its length. Willow will lend the final instrument a beautifully mellow tone."
